1. I decided to be a Designer, Fashion Journalist because growing up I was always playing dress up and creating clothes as far back as I could remember. Fashion has always been a huge part of my life. It just naturally happened I didn’t even plan for it. I never went to college or design school, I actually went to an Aveda Beauty & Wellness institute. I thought I was going to be a hair stylist but I guess the universe had different plans for me!

2. I still remember, the first magazine that made an impression on me as a kid it would have to be a mix between the mens magazine Stuff and Teen Vogue. I had older brothers and I would always sneak into their room to read Stuff magazine. It had sex, dating and life advice plus hot girls I dreamed of growing up to look like! I use to cut out all the photos in Teen Vogue and make strange collages and scrap books with them. I have a fond memory of taping cat and dog faces over models. Basically you would have these kitten and puppies with killer bodies… yeah weird I don’t know either.

3. My high school years involved a lot of feeling like shit, being upset and hoping there was more to life. I actually got kicked out of high school in 11th grade (thank god). I come from a sorta strict family who took school very serious. I would of NEVER been able to drop out so I had to take it in my own hands. Don’t regret a minute of it. Skrew kids they are assholes!

4. Now I get to work on on awesome things everyday. I get to play with clothing, makeup and create inspiring content as well as make the clothing of my dreams. I actually deal with A LOT of business not so fun and glamourous things as well, those aren’t so fun to talk about!

I can't get enough. All I want to do is mix and match crazy floral and geo prints and create insane outfits. These are so beautiful and edgy without even trying.

I recently did a shoot and interview for UK magazine Vanity! Love how fun the images turned out! I did all the styling, hair and makeup for this shoot.  I used green hair spray to give myself the mermaid look.

When I first heard about the color run all I could think is how and when can I sign up! The Color Run is a 5k charity walk/job/crawl/run that tarvels around the USA. You start in all white clothing and as you reach each mile you get a different color of magical all natural colored powder thrown on you. By the end you a huge rainbow mess!

Im hoping to do the NYC and Philly ones depending on my work schedual. You have to sing up fast though they do sell out!

Since it's almost Prom season, Buzznet asked to interview me about my personal prom experiancs in high school. Check out my answers below of my NOT so conventional and fun prom experiance!

BN: What was your high school prom theme?

AK: I actually got kicked out of high school end of 11th grade! I didn't get to go to prom... not sure if I would of went anyway though to be honest! I went to someone else's prom in Philly though the following year! I don't remember much about the theme though.

BN: Did you go with a friend or someone you had a crush on?

AK: I went with my "boyfriend" at the time. He ended up ditching me at his prom and I didn't know anyone. The school had this "against drunk driving" program so you couldn't leave the premises till 6am the NEXT day. It was a horrible memory. I think I just sat in a corner people watching and thinking about wanting to get white tattoo's on my wrists ha! Don't worry he still tries to talk to me and be my friend to this day. I win!

BN: What was your prom song?

AK: Shesh no idea.

BN: What did you wear to prom?

AK: I made my dress... the theme was a pink ballerina dress with black lace and ribbons. For the time it was pretty cute. I remember trying to hand dye baby pink satin heels... it failed miserably! 

BN: Who would you take as your ultimate celebrity crush prom date?

AK: Zac Efron because he's super hot and I think he's really young still?... young enough! I saw the Lucky One and it rehashed my serious crush. Last time we were in same room was the 17 Again premiere. Ah the memories.... kidding.

BN: What is your best memory from prom?

AK: Getting ready, picking out the clothing and making my outfit! I think that's every girls favorite part... how can you not love that? You feel like Cinderella for one night, minus the crazy step sister situation and scrubbing floors.

BN: How did your date ask you to prom?

AK: I think he asked me over AIM messenger ha! I should of stood him up

BN: What makes a memorable prom?

AK: I think not taking it too serious and just having fun. You have your whole life ahead of you for relationships. Just go and have fun with friends and play dress up and don't care what anyone thinks. You'll never see these people again in few months... go crazy be yourself!

BN: What would be on your prom playlist?

AK: Ryan Adams, Radiohead, Best Coast, Lisa Mitchell, The Doors, The Beatles, The Beach Boys... basically coolest prom DJ ever!

Recently learned about the Cardinal, fixed and mutable signs. Im a fixed fire sign... typical. People don't realise what a big role astrology plays in life. I traded my physic's in years ago for astrologists and it was a life changer. Once you understand the charts and how planets work and move... you can be happy and succeed in anything! You start to understand why people act out and what's going on with them from another dimension. Our universe is your puppet master. Learn how he works and you can control anything.

example: LEO: Fixed quality, Fire element: The Fire element of Leo's Fixed nature makes this sign powerfully self-expressive and many Leos are highly artistic and creative. This sign will latch on to an idea and wrestle it to the ground, not stopping until it is expressed in a manner which Leo believes is best. The lion is known as "King of the Jungle," and Leo will assert his or her masterful authority at all times--whether that authority be real or imagined. Their efforts are buttressed by one overwhelmingly attractive quality--self confidence. Few signs are as a good at psyching out their competitors and uncovering the secret to their success!

Im going to post a lot of information. Don't be overwhelmed. First figure out if you are a cardinal, fixed or mutable sign. Then read about whichever you are. Next figure out if you are a fire, earth, air or water sign. Then read about that. Once you look over the info it will come together and make a lot of sense very fast! Astrology is SO accurate it's almost frighting.

What are Signs?  

Astrology is mainly concerned with a narrow “belt” of space around the Sun’s apparent path across the sky. We call this belt the Zodiac and we divide it into twelve equal portions called Signs. Each sign is unique and has its own influence. They can, however, be grouped according to certain similarities. One way is by Element, or basic character. The other way to group signs is by Quality, or by how they tend to act.

The Cardinal Signs: take action. They charge right in and get the job done (or fall flat on their face, depending on the situation). These are Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. If there is no crisis for them to take care of, they have been known to create one just to have something to do. Please remember that everyone has every sign somewhere in their horoscope. The Cardinal Signs show where in your life you will tend to take action.

The Fixed Signs: like stability. Cardinal Signs like to Run things. Fixed Signs want to Own things. They want to be the boss and let the cardinal signs run things for them. Fixed Signs are stubborn, fixed in position. They frequently take longer to start, but they never seem to stop. Cardinal Signs want to move. Fixed Signs want everything else to move around them while they sit still. The Fixed Signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius. Please remember that everyone has every sign somewhere in their horoscope. The Fixed Signs show where in your life you will tend to stand fast under pressure. 

The Mutable Signs: are communicators. Cardinal signs take action. Fixed signs develop what the cardinal signs start, and Mutable Signs talk about what the other signs are doing. Actually, if it weren’t for the Mutable Signs, the other two types would probably kill each other. Mutables are Adaptable and usually willing to compromise. They are People Oriented and not usually inclined to step on someone else’s toes. Cardinal Signs say “Out of my way, I’ve got to get this done!”. Fixed Signs say “I think that this is right and that’s wrong, and That’s That!”. Mutable Signs would say “Let’s talk this over”. Mutables will stay with something as long as it is interesting. As soon as it stops being interesting, they are out of there. If something has to be finished soon and they find it very interesting, they won’t stop. They will find some excuse to keep it going. Please remember that everyone has every sign somewhere in their horoscope. The Mutable Signs show where in your life you are likely to adapt, talk things over, and compromise.

The Fire Signs: Please remember that everyone has every sign somewhere in their horoscope. What follows is a description of the influence of  Fire Signs by themselves, without considering the influence other signs have on the chart. In an individual chart, of course, all the factors blend to produce a unique final result.

Fire burns things. If it were conscious, it would look upon everything else as being either fuel or not fuel. And that’s how people with strong Fire placements seem to act. They can be so completely self-centered, it sometimes seems they don’t know that anyone else is really alive. It’s very difficult to get them to see things from anyone else’s point of view because, deep inside themselves, they don’t believe there is any other point of view. Just their own. Fire Signs deal with situations by pushing any and all obstacles out of the way.

 On the more positive side, Fire shows your true identity, what you are really like inside, what you seem to initiate by yourself alone.

 Fire Signs show the places in your horoscope where you are at your most assertive and inspired, where you can get the “big picture rather than get bogged down in details.

 Aries is Cardinal Fire. It shows where you can initiate action immediately, forcefully and directly.  

 Leo is Fixed Fire and shows where you are Creative, where you can really put your heart into something.

 Sagittarius is Mutable Fire. This is the sign of Wisdom. It’s placement in your horoscope shows where and how you can understand things and make sense of it all.

Aries is like an Explosion, Leo like Sunshine, and Sagittarius like a Candle in the Dark.

The Earth Signs: Please remember that everyone has every sign somewhere in their horoscope. In an individual horoscope, of course, all the factors blend to produce a unique final result. Earth is solid, tangible. Fire is intuitive. Earth Signs, by contrast, believe only what they can see, hear, touch, taste or smell. If they can’t sense something, then to them, it doesn’t exist. Fire Signs just know that there is something coming from just over that hill. Earth Signs will believe it when it gets here. Without Fire, there is no joy, no reason to live. But Earth knows that you can’t live on inspiration alone. Someone has to do the hard work and take out the garbage at the end of the day. Earth Signs show the places in your horoscope where you are practical, “down to earth”, and take care of those daily chores, those details of living. On the negative side, the placements of Earth Signs in your horoscope can show where you are rigid and blocked, afraid to move. 

The Air Signs: Please remember that everyone has every sign somewhere in their horoscope. What follows is a description of Air Signs by themselves without considering the influence other signs have on the chart. In an individual horoscope, of course, all the factors blend to produce a unique final result. Air Signs deal with communications, relationships,  and intellect. They are the most human of the signs. By themselves, they are also the most cold and emotionally detached. Those with heavy emphasis on Air Signs in their horoscopes find it difficult to understand other, more emotional,  people. “But why did they do that?” they ask. “That was so irrational!” Of course it was. And that’s that. But Air Sign folks can’t let things rest there. They have to discuss things more. They always need more information. In the horoscope, Air Signs show where we emphasize thought, communication ability, and sociability. Without Air Signs in the horoscope,  a strong Fire Sign influence would make us charge off and get into trouble, and a strong Earth Sign presence could make us  just sit there, doing the same old routines over and over, never being able to think of improving things.

The Water Signs: Please remember that everyone has every sign somewhere in their horoscope. What follows is a description of Water Signs by themselves without considering the influence other signs have on the chart. In an individual horoscope, of course, all the factors blend to produce a unique final result.

Water is emotion and “instinct”. Fire Signs seem to want to burn away all obstacles. Water Signs, by contrast, want to enfold EVERYTHING, be everywhere, cover as much as possible, and more. For example, check out the horoscope of Bill Gates.  He has his Sun in the Water Sign of Scorpio and his Ascendant (the Rising Sign) is another Water Sign, Cancer. The motto he chose for his company was “Microsoft Everywhere”.

Water Signs (emotion) frequently clash with those who have an emphasis on air signs (intellect) because those with an excess of water are frequently unaware of the steps they are taking when thinking. It seems to the Water Sign people that they just “know” something to be true. When the air sign folks press them for the reason Why they said something, the Water Sign person has no answer. So each goes off thinking that the other one is stupid. In the horoscope,

Water Signs show where we emphasize emotion, nurturing, and intuition. Without the Water Signs, we could never really Feel and life would not be worth living.

FIXED SIGNS: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius

The role of the Fixed signs is to maintain, uphold and defend positions, responsibilities, goals or desires in everyday situations. These signs are the least welcoming of change. Their role in the zodiac is to preserve tradition. Fixed signs are not easily distracted--they keep their hands on the steering wheel and their eyes on the road. They can be a bit stubborn or stuck in a rut, a down side of their ability to stay the course. Yet these signs are valued for their consistent, loyal, devoted, reliable and patient natures. Yes, they do hold strong opinions and at times they can be inflexible, but there are some areas in life that those traits are needed and even encouraged. How each sign expresses the Fixed Quality depends on their own characteristics:

Taurus: Fixed Quality, Earth Element: The Earth element of a Taurus' Fixed nature makes them focus on the accumulation of material possessions, and moves Taurus' to guard what they earn or accumulate. Since Tauruses have sensuous natures, they enjoy the tactile quality of tangible objects. They care for other people's property in the same responsible manner as their own, and often wind up in positions of professional guardianship. The insurance business is a perfect industry for Taurus, because of its focus on security. Tauruses are oriented to the here-and-now and need to see tangible fruits of their labors. In short, some signs don't mind being more famous than rich, but not Taurus. Being a practical earth element, they want to see the cash.

Leo: Fixed quality, Fire element: The Fire element of Leo's Fixed nature makes this sign powerfully self-expressive and many Leos are highly artistic and creative. Scorpios work in purposeful ways. You can always sense a wellspring of power simmering just under the surface. Want to change a Scorpio's mind? Good luck! Their Fixed nature can be maddening, yet their steadfast loyalty to those they love is also one of their endearing qualities. Their intense, smoldering passion (Water sign) makes them mesmerizing.

Aquarius: Fixed quality, Air element: Aquarius's foundation in Air--a communicative element--mixed with their Fixed quality drives this sign to make their friendships permanent. Few signs take friendship as seriously as Aquarius, and they tend to keep, defend, and care for their friends over a lifetime. Another role of Aquarius is to create and found groups and organizations, for their natural domain is over the 11th sector. Being a radical sign ruling the future, some Astrology Zone readers may be surprised to hear Aquarius is a Fixed sign--one would expect them perhaps be Mutable. However, Aquarius' Fixed nature is demonstrated in their scientific and orderly minds and their insistence on maintaining strict procedures to insure they obtain the most accurate results. Aquarius does forge into the future, but not in the rash, impulsive way an Aries might. Rather, Aquarius insists on total objectivity--you won't find any emotionality or preconceived ideas. Their Fixed quality makes them dogged in their pursuit of discovery--and it is a rare Aquarian that does not eventually hit pay dirt with that kind of intent! After all, Aquarius is the sign of the inventor!

CARDINAL SIGNS: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn

As the "scout signs" which generate the seasons, cardinal signs govern creativity. These signs are restless, active, self-motivated, ambitious, and they often are the leaders in their communities. They can be a bit domineering, but that comes part and parcel with their best qualities of being enterprising, independent, creative, spontaneous and forceful.

Here's how each sign's unique mix of Quality and Element influence how they express their Cardinal nature.

Aries: Cardinal Quality, Fire Element: An Aries' role is to project himself upon the world through firsthand experiences. Self-expression is paramount to this pioneering sign, and Aries likes to see how far he can go in exploring, discovering and experimenting with the world around him. Aries' fire element gives him supreme faith in himself along with a fierce sense of courage. His Cardinal nature makes him restless and in need of change for the sake of change. He is assertive too, and manages to get himself known in a fairly short time. Says Aries, "If I don't attract some attention to myself, how is anyone going to know me?" Right on, Aries! We can all learn from you. True to form, Aries does get to know the right people. (In Aries' case, the "right" ones tend to be venture capitalists or high level muckety-mucks who can make some splendid introductions for them!) Where would we be without Aries daredevils to push us forward?

Cancer: Cardinal Quality, Water Element: Cancer's role is to actively explore the entire realm of human emotion. That Cancer is both Cardinal and Water motivates this sign to explore new emotional states and experiences. As a Water sign, Cancer is the most subtle of the Cardinal signs when expressing his independence and ambition. But don't be fooled--those qualities are just as powerful within Cancer as in the other Cardinal signs, no matter how gentle a Cancer outwardly appears.

Astrologers often describe Cancer as moody, which can be true at times, but that description oversimplifies Cancers' rich textural nature and their ability to accept, initiate or even embrace change when they feel it is necessary. They have a capacity for sympathy and compassion that is unmatched by any other sign except fellow water sign Pisces. Cancers have a wide emotional spectrum, and they generally experience an inner life that combines higher highs and lower lows than the rest of us. Cancer wouldn't have it any other way!

Libra: Cardinal Quality, Air Element: Libras are great matchmakers and know how to get things cooking by introducing individuals to one another in relaxed social situations. This sign mixes with lots of people and communicates often, so a Libra alone is a bit of an oxymoron, or a bit like the sound of one hand clapping! Bewildered Libra would wonder what happened to the other hand. Trying to do anything without the "other half" of the unit seems pointless to them. Libras do their best work bouncing ideas off others and working in partnerships or team situations. Their active, authoritative, Cardinal quality brings them in contact with successful over-achievers like themselves, so they quickly build a data base of influential friends, associates, and contacts. (Need an introduction to advance your pet project? Ask a Libra for help--they will throw a party or arrange a lunch.) Since they're Cardinal, Libras can be bossy, but they express their dominance in such a charming way that others become easily (sometimes joyfully) wrapped around Libra's little fingers.

Capricorn: Cardinal Quality, Earth Element: Capricorn is a Cardinal sign who initiates activity with the end result in mind. They are not impulsive or impetuous--the Capricorn Earth nature sets goals and plans carefully. Unlike fellow Earth sign Taurus, a sign motivated by money, Capricorn's motivation is to maintain and improve their reputations. Prestige is candy to Capricorn, for they love being respected for their work. Anything they put their name on has to be the best they can do. They work with almost the same dedication and obsession of a Virgo (OK, I concede that Virgo is hard to beat in area of obsession and perfection.) Gaining honor or fame for its own sake will always interest Capricorn, especially if the position allows them to use their substantial leadership abilities. Why would a practical Capricorn accept a high profile position without a big salary attached? Earthy Capricorn realizes they can leverage the title for more responsibility and compensation later. Some people say that each of us is only two phone calls away from people in power. If that is true, and you want to reach someone high up in the stratosphere (the White House?) call your Capricorn first. They know all the right people--and eventually become part of the inner circle themselves.

MUTABLE AIGNS: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces

The Mutable signs' prepare for change into the next season. This makes the people of this group highly adaptable, flexible and communicative. Throw a curve to a Mutable sign and they can turn on a dime, coming up with solutions faster than you can bat an eye. Mutable signs are restless and embrace change. They are the most resourceful of all the signs, and thus, they make much from little. They are highly detail-oriented, but should take care not to get so wound up in tiny particulars that they lose sight of the whole.

Gemini: Mutable quality, Air element: Gemini's need for stimulation can not be overstated. Highly intellectual, Gemini needs news and information like oxygen. Being an Air sign, Gemini enjoys the exchange of ideas with others--this is no loner. The sound of a phone's dial tone is as comforting to Gemini as the sound of a mama's heartbeat to a baby. One Gemini friend has confessed that her fax machine going off sounds like the love call between two mating whales, a sound that thrills her because it means news is on the way (we will be sure to get my friend professional help soon). Seriously, being an adaptable Mutable sign, Gemini's mind is always going at the speed of light. They can put various pieces of information together in a multitude of ways, and this makes them quite good at figuring things out, be they instructions to the VCR, the facts of a murder case, or the intricacies of the Congressional budget. Gemini can change their position as quickly as they assimilate new information, remaining at all times objective. Gemini's downfall? Their adeptness at handling several things at once can lead them to assume too much responsibility. At that point they can become scattered or begin to procrastinate. If they stay focused, they can accomplish more in a day than most of us do in a week.

Virgo: Mutable quality, Earth element: Virgo is more practical than Gemini and just as intelligent. This sign seeks to devote its substantial communicative talents to concrete goals. Virgo is less likely than Gemini to become scattered by trying to do too many things, and yet more likely than Gemini to become bogged down in the details. Virgo's fastidiousness and precision is unmatched by any other sign. They polish their work until it shines, for Virgo's overwhelming desire is to feel productive. Don't tell a Virgo to relax and chill out, for most members of this sign have not quite mastered that ability. They feel badly if they waste time. Being an Earth sign, their powers of organization are amazing and it's this skill which gets Virgo tangible results they can measure, compare, assess and perfect (a Virgo word if there ever was one). But Virgo isn't rigid--far from it. Virgo's Mutability allows for a willing flexibility and razor-sharp course corrections mid-way, an asset Virgo keeps hidden up their laundered and starched white sleeve.

Sagittarius: Mutable quality, Fire element: Sagittarius expresses its hefty intellect in the realms of philosophy and spirituality. People of this group also enjoy delving into the differences and similarities of various cultures. Sagittarius' Fire nature craves adventure and likes to feel a sense of exploration in the projects he takes on. Whereas Gemini focuses on the daily details of current events, Sagittarius focuses on the underlying moral or ethical implications of issues, past or present. Like all Mutable signs, Sadge is curious, but it's pro-active Fire element makes Sadge the sign most likely to explore and debate hypothetical situations (communication being the dominant quality of a Mutable sign). For a fun time, they listen to National Public Radio and watch Meet the Press. Keeping up with this high octane Mutable/Fire sign is hard, but well worth the effort.

Pisces: Mutable quality, Water element: Pisces use their Mutable nature to explore and adjust to the feelings (Water's domain) of others around them. Since Mutable signs are communicative, Pisces takes the concerns of those around them seriously and will always offer information, sympathy, advice--whatever is appropriate to the situation. Pisces' ability to adapt is so strong that he almost literally becomes the person he is trying to help and he often does not see the borders of where he stops and the other person begins. This can be hard on Pisces, for long after the other person has settled whatever has troubled them, Pisces' strong intellect continues to chew on the ramifications and various issues involved. They need closure, so if you ask a Pisces for advice, be sure to let him know later what action you took and the results you experienced. If you don't, your Pisces will be in a perpetual state of anxiety over your condition. One last word: show appreciation to your Pisces. Taking too big an advantage of Pisces' good nature is a cosmic no-no.
